{"id":1230,"date":"2023-06-01T13:19:40","date_gmt":"2023-06-01T19:19:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/helleengineering.com\/?p=1230"},"modified":"2023-07-03T08:46:10","modified_gmt":"2023-07-03T14:46:10","slug":"ups-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/helleengineering.com\/index.php\/ups-project\/","title":{"rendered":"UPS Project"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>In the biofuels industry power reliability is not an exception.\u00a0 For a customer in Fair Oaks Indiana had a common issue most farms face, power failures.\u00a0 Over the course of a year the customer spent thousands on replacing PLCs, IO cards, HMIs and other electrical components.\u00a0 As the power spikes persisted reliability plummeted along with revenue as operations were unable to restart the plant with failed DCS components.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the customer main DCS support Helle Engineering developed a project to address the issue.\u00a0 The design consisted of 2 different rated panels NEMA4 for outdoor use and NEMA12 for indoor use.\u00a0 Both panels were custom designed to hold an Eaton 9SX UPS and external batteries.\u00a0 The NEMA4 panel had an AC system for climate control while under the Class 1, Div 2 area classification.\u00a0 The NEMA12 panel had a cooling fan and filter system.\u00a0 Both panel designs were used for providing 12 hours of uninterruptible power for remote DCS control panels.\u00a0 These UPS systems saved them thousands of dollars on protecting DCS equipment and increased the reliability of the DCS system.\u00a0 Increases in production are now occurring because operators can restart the plant in a timely manner after a temporary loss of the 480VAC bus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"356\" src=\"https:\/\/helleengineering.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/ups_web-1024x356.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1317\" srcset=\"https:\/\/helleengineering.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/ups_web-1024x356.png 1024w, https:\/\/helleengineering.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/ups_web-300x104.png 300w, https:\/\/helleengineering.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/ups_web-768x267.png 768w, https:\/\/helleengineering.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/ups_web-1536x535.png 1536w, https:\/\/helleengineering.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/ups_web.png 1902w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>All UPS systems had a common trouble and temperature alarm wired back to the control system.&nbsp; For this project our I&amp;E services installed 5 UPS panels, 3 outdoor and 2 indoor. &nbsp;Each UPS system could power 4 separate 120VAC circuits.
